Police confirm suspicious object on drone was a replica grenade

The Metro Jaya Regional Police have confirmed that a suspicious object found attached to a drone within its jurisdiction was an item resembling or a replica of a grenade, not an active explosive. Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated on Monday that the confirmation was based on the results of the crime scene investigation and direct handling by the Brimob Gegana Team and the Inafis Team. ‘Based on the results of the crime scene investigation and handling by the Brimob Gegana Team, the object initially suspected of being an explosive has been confirmed as an item resembling or a replica of a grenade, not an explosive,’ he said. Budi explained that the police had previously received a report from the public regarding a suspicious object attached to a drone. Following up on the report, police officers quickly moved to the location to secure the scene by installing a police line, as well as coordinating with the Gegana and Inafis teams for further handling. ‘It is true, officers received a report of a suspicious object attached to a drone and suspected of resembling a grenade,’ he said. Although the object was confirmed not to be a genuine explosive, Budi stressed that the police are currently conducting further investigations to uncover the motive and origin of the incident. ‘At this time, the police are still conducting an in-depth investigation into the incident, including questioning the reporter and witnesses,’ Budi said. Previously, a lawyer named Novianus Martin Bau experienced an alleged act of terror at his home in the Pondok Petir area, Depok, on Sunday at around 3:45 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. Novianus also stated that his party had reported the incident to the Depok Metro Police. The report was registered under number LP/1939/VII/2026/SPKT/Polres Metro Depok/Polda Metro Jaya on Sunday. He added that the incident began when an object suddenly fell in his yard. Upon inspection, the object was a drone with a grenade attached to its body and a message reading ‘This is just the beginning’. Novianus also suspects the incident is related to a legal case being handled by his team, including a land dispute involving Arjuna HyperBowling on Jalan Arjuna Utara, Kedoya Selatan, West Jakarta. Novianus reported the alleged criminal threat as regulated under Article 449 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
