Police confirm situation under control after tyre-burning incident in Pancoran
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have confirmed that the situation has returned to normal after an incident in which a group of people burned tyres in the middle of the road in the Pancoran area, South Jakarta. “There was a small incident earlier this evening, but now it is safe,” Pancoran Police Chief Kompol Mansur told reporters in Jakarta on Friday. Mansur said traffic conditions at the location are now normal and vehicles can pass from all directions. Currently, traffic flow is confirmed to have returned to normal so that road users can resume their activities in the area. “The road is passable and has returned to normal,” he said. Mansur added that the group of people who were previously at the location have also dispersed. Earlier, information circulated about a mass action involving people carrying flags of the Indonesian National Student Movement (GMNI) in the area in front of the Pancoran petrol station heading towards Pasar Minggu. During the action, the group burned tyres on the road, attracting the attention of passing road users. However, police confirmed the situation was brought under control and did not last long. Officers also provided security and managed traffic to prevent more severe congestion in the area. Police appealed to the public to remain orderly in expressing their aspirations and not to take actions that could disrupt public order or endanger the safety of other road users. Police personnel are continuing to monitor the vicinity to ensure the security and public order situation is maintained.
