Police Confirm No Assault During Mediation Between Security Guard and Alphard Driver at Thamrin Police Post

Police are continuing to investigate the case of a Toyota Alphard driver who ran a red light at the Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta and objected when reprimanded by a security guard. Police have confirmed that no violence occurred while the two were being mediated at the Thamrin Police Post. “There was no brawl. So during the mediation process there was no violence or assault,” said Menteng Police Chief AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu to reporters at the Menteng Police Station, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (23/7/2026). Braiel explained that the incident was captured by CCTV near the Bundaran HI bus stop. Initially, a vehicle ran the traffic light at the pelican crossing. At that moment, security guard Victor Harefa was about to cross. He saw the Alphard speeding through the red light and reflexively tapped the car’s body. “From there, a quarrel and dispute occurred, and at that time it was immediately mediated at the Thamrin Police Post by Pospol personnel,” he said. Braiel stated that both parties agreed to reconcile after the mediation. However, he noted that the option to file a police report regarding the matter remains open. “We have conveyed that if there is anything unsatisfactory or any party feels aggrieved, we welcome them to file a report,” he said. “Especially for the parties involved, we welcome them to make a report if they feel dissatisfied or uncomfortable during the mediation process. We will follow it up according to legal procedures,” he added. It was previously reported that the driver of the Toyota Alphard ran a red light at the Bundaran HI crossing in Central Jakarta, sparking a row with a security guard who reprimanded him. Police stated the driver has been issued an electronic traffic ticket. “He was caught by an electronic traffic camera,” said Menteng Police Chief AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu when contacted on Wednesday (22/7). Braiel explained that the security guard at the location reprimanded the Alphard driver for running the red light by banging on the car window. The driver took exception to this, leading to a verbal altercation. Both parties then went to the Thamrin Police Post. Officers facilitated mediation and the matter was resolved amicably. “After both parties agreed, they forgave each other and shook hands. It was settled amicably with the help of mediation by the officer at the Thamrin Police Post,” he said.
