Police Confirm No Assault During Mediation Between Security Guard and Alphard Driver at Thamrin Police Post
Police are continuing to investigate the case of a Toyota Alphard driver who ran a red light at the HI Roundabout in Central Jakarta and objected when reprimanded by a security guard. Police have confirmed that no violence took place when the two were mediated at the Thamrin Police Post.
“There was no fighting. During the mediation process, there was no violence or beating,” said Head of Menteng Police AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu to journalists at the Menteng Police Station in Central Jakarta on Thursday (23/7/2026).
Braiel explained that the incident was recorded on CCTV near the HI Roundabout bus stop. Initially, a vehicle ran a traffic light at the pelican crossing near the stop.
At the time, the security guard, Victor Harefa, was about to cross the road. He then saw the Alphard speeding through a red light and instinctively slapped the car’s body.
“From there, a quarrel and dispute arose, and at that point, personnel from the Police Post immediately helped mediate at the Thamrin Police Post,” he said.
Braiel said both parties agreed to make peace following the mediation. However, he noted that any party wishing to file a police report regarding the matter may do so.
“However, we convey that if there is anything unpleasant or if any party feels dissatisfied, we invite them to file a report,” he said.
“Especially those involved, we invite them to file a report if there is anything they feel dissatisfied or displeased about during the mediation process. We welcome it and will follow it up in accordance with legal procedures,” he added.
As background, the driver of the Toyota Alphard ran a red light at the HI Roundabout in Central Jakarta and quarrelled with a security guard after being reprimanded. Police said the Alphard driver has been issued a traffic ticket.
“He received an electronic traffic ticket,” said Head of Menteng Metro Police AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu when contacted on Wednesday (22/7).
Braiel said the security guard at the location reprimanded the Alphard driver for running the red light by slapping the car’s window. The Alphard driver objected, leading to an altercation.
“The security guard reprimanded the driver by slapping the car’s window. The driver was unhappy with the security guard’s actions, and a verbal altercation ensued,” he explained.
Both parties then went to the Thamrin Police Post. Police facilitated the mediation, and the matter was settled amicably.
“After both parties agreed, they forgave each other and shook hands. It was resolved amicably through mediation assisted by the Head of the Thamrin Police Post,” he said.
