Rumours that a mosque in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, had been sealed preventing worshippers from praying have circulated. Police have verified the site and confirmed the mosque itself was not sealed.

Located at Jalan Nurul Iman in Cipedak Village, Jagakarsa, the mosque’s Dewan Kemakmuran Masjid (DKM) office was closed. Police Commissioner Nurma Dewi, Chief of Jagakarsa Police Station, stated on Tuesday (26 May 2026): “The reports circulating on Instagram about a sealed mosque are false. What occurred was the closure of the Nurul Iman Mosque DKM office using a wooden plank across the door.”

Photos shared on social media showed two crossed wooden planks blocking the entrance, but some narratives claimed the mosque’s access was sealed. Nurma confirmed the mosque remains open and activities continue normally, stressing the closure was confined to the DKM office.

“Prayer sessions and other mosque activities, including the sacrificial committee and Quran memorisation classes, are proceeding as usual,” she added.

Police are investigating the closure of the DKM office, including the individual responsible. It is suspected to stem from a dispute between the current DKM and the heirs of the previous nazir (trustee).

“According to statements from mosque management outside the DKM, the current DKM has not been legally established, prompting the management to submit a letter to the KUA (Religious Affairs Office) for mediation,” she said.

“Under the law, DKM management must be signed by the KUA. To date, the DKM members have been summoned to the KUA but have not appeared within the deadline, leading other management members to close the DKM office,” she explained.

“Who closed the DKM office is still under investigation,” she added.
