Police Confirm JICT Retiree Was Killed by Robber, Not Due to Corruption Criticism
Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters have confirmed that the death of Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) retiree Ermanto Usman (65) was a case of theft with aggravating circumstances that resulted in murder. Police emphasise that the case is unrelated to other circulating issues concerning the victim’s activities. This was disclosed by the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters, Senior Police Commissioner Iman Imanuddin.
“The facts we have discovered show no connection to the alleged murder motivated by EU’s criticism regarding suspected corruption,” he stated on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
In solving this case, the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters apprehended a suspect named Sudirman alias Yuda. The suspect had no specific target when carrying out his actions. He selected the victim’s house randomly after noticing its large size and suspecting there were valuable items inside.
The perpetrator was not committing such acts for the first time. In a previous incident, he was caught by a homeowner but managed to escape. Iman stated that this case’s motive was purely driven by economic factors.
“The suspect has committed similar crimes at the latest crime scene in several locations. He was even caught by a victim on one occasion, but managed to flee. This occurred at another location,” he said.
Police confirmed that the suspect acted alone. The perpetrator’s identity was uncovered after investigators discovered fingerprints at the crime scene. During the investigation, police seized several pieces of evidence related to his actions. These included a crowbar used to prise open the victim’s window and strike both victims. Also seized were scissors used to prise open the window and several items belonging to the victim that the suspect managed to carry away.
“A Samsung mobile phone and an iPhone belonging to the victim. One has been sold and one is being used by the suspect. We found a laptop and money from the sale of gold. A flash drive containing CCTV recordings and CCTV footage of the suspect’s journey to and from the crime scene,” he said.
For his actions, the perpetrator was charged under Articles 458 Paragraphs 1 and 3 and Article 479 Paragraph 3 of the 2023 Criminal Code with a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
