Jakarta - North Jakarta Metro Police have stated that a video of domestic worker abuse by a homeowner in Sunter Agung District, North Jakarta, which circulated on social media, occurred in 2023.

“Investigators have checked the crime scene and the incident happened three years ago, around February 2023,” said Head of Women and Children Protection Unit and Human Trafficking (PPA/PPO) Kompol Ni Luh Sri Arsini in Jakarta on Monday.

She identified the victim as a 57-year-old woman with initials S who worked at the residence of the suspect, identified as HW (42).

At the time, she explained, the suspect HW was cleaning a prayer space in his home. However, the victim carelessly soiled the prayer space, resulting in a miscommunication between the suspect and the victim.

“The suspect then struck and kicked the victim’s back,” said Sri.

After assaulting his domestic worker, the suspect HW subsequently regretted his actions and immediately apologised.

“Not long after the incident, the two parties reconciled,” explained Sri.

She further explained that the victim was unwilling to file a police report because she continues to work at the suspect’s residence.

However, despite the reconciliation, the authorities are continuing the investigation process.

“We are still conducting an investigation into this case,” stated Sri.

Currently, she revealed that the victim is at the Women and Children Protection Office with investigators for psychological recovery.

“Meanwhile, suspect HW is still undergoing questioning and currently has witness status,” said Sri.
