Police confirm Cirebon 'pocong terror' hoax
The Cirebon City Police (Polresta Cirebon) in West Java has clarified that viral social media claims of a ‘pocong mugging terror’ causing public concern in Cirebon are false.
Cirebon City Police Chief Kombes Pol. Imara Utama stated on Tuesday (26 May) that no reports or incidents related to the issue had been received or found in the area.
Police have also verified and found no evidence of a ‘pocong terror’ as widely discussed online.
‘We urge residents to remain calm and not easily believe information without clear sources or verification,’ Imara said, citing Antara on Wednesday (27 May).
Imara advised the public to exercise caution when engaging with viral posts to avoid spreading misinformation that could incite public anxiety.
He also urged citizens to contact the police hotline at 110 if they notice suspicious activity in their neighbourhood, adding that officers would respond to verify any reports.
‘Spreading false information on social media can cause panic if not corrected promptly,’ he added.
Therefore, Polresta Cirebon continues to encourage the public to verify information before trusting or sharing it with others.
‘We stress that security in Cirebon Regency remains stable, and residents are advised not to be provoked by unverified claims,’ he concluded.
