Police Confirm CCTV Footage of Acid Attackers on KontraS Activist Not AI-Generated
Police have revealed the faces of two perpetrators who carried out an acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus from CCTV footage. The police have assured that the images of the two suspects’ faces have not been altered and are not the result of artificial intelligence (AI).
“This is the result of footage captured from CCTV that we have obtained. We emphasise to all colleagues that this has not undergone any changes or processing whatsoever, so we can be held accountable that this is not the result of artificial intelligence,” stated Dirreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Iman Imannudin at Mapolda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
Iman also revealed that the two perpetrators are initialled BHC and MAK. The facial images of the two perpetrators were purely taken from CCTV recordings along the road that captured the suspects’ movements.
“We convey that this is purely taken from CCTV captured by surveillance cameras along the route passed by the perpetrators, so it is not the result of artificial intelligence,” he said.
Furthermore, Iman stated that his side has examined 15 witnesses in this case. He suspects that the acid attackers number more than four people.
“At this time, we suspect that we can inform that the two people we showed earlier from Polri data are one initialled BHC, two initialled MAK. However, from our investigation results, we do not rule out the possibility that the perpetrators could be suspected to be more than four,” he said.
As is known, Andrie Yunus became the victim of an acid attack allegedly carried out by two perpetrators in Central Jakarta on Thursday (12/3) night. The incident occurred while Andrie was on his way home after attending a podcast event at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
