The investigation into the disruption of worship at the GMS (Gereja Misi Sejahtera) Church in Sewon, Bantul, is ongoing. The Head of Public Relations for the Yogyakarta Regional Police, Commissioner Ihsan, stated that investigators are still delving into the specific roles of the perpetrators before officially naming suspects.

Ihsan explained that the case has now entered the investigation stage. Investigators have already interrogated 16 witnesses regarding the incident that occurred on Sunday, 24 May.

“We will fully unravel the sequence of events to determine the specific roles of those who will be named as suspects,” Ihsan told reporters at the Yogyakarta Regional Police Mosque in Sleman on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.

In addition to examining witnesses, officers are analysing CCTV footage, which will serve as the basis for identifying the suspects’ involvement. Ihsan noted that there will likely be more than one suspect, as investigators are applying Article 20 of the Criminal Code to the incident.

“The process is still ongoing, which is why we want to examine the entire event. We will also collect results from the CCTV to determine their roles, as there will certainly be more than one suspect,” he said.

Ihsan emphasised that the investigation is continuing and assured that officers are committed to resolving the case thoroughly.

“Ultimately, we are committed to investigating this case to the end. We hope this is the last incident and that it serves as a warning to others: do not attempt intimidation or unilateral actions that disturb public order or interfere with religious activities,” he concluded.
