Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have conducted urine tests on three young men suspected of mapping drug distribution routes in the RT 013/005 area of Gang Dalang, Munjul, Anggrek Loka, Cipayung, East Jakarta.

"We will carry out urine checks as part of the investigation process for the three youths," said Cipayung Police Chief Superintendent Saut Parulian Tobing when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday.

The urine tests are intended to establish whether there is any involvement in narcotics abuse.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Cipayung Police Station, Inspector Edy Handoko, said that although no narcotics evidence was found when the suspects were apprehended, examinations would still be conducted in accordance with procedure.

"That's correct, there was no physical evidence. They were only about to carry out 'mapping'. As a follow-up, I will first conduct urine tests," Edy said.

According to him, the urine tests represent an initial step to determine whether the three youths tested positive for narcotics consumption. The results will serve as the basis for police to determine further legal action.

Additionally, Edy explained that the three youths were suspected of attempting to collect items ordered via telephone communication. However, upon inspection, the phone number allegedly used for the transaction was no longer active.

"'Mapping' means searching for or collecting. So they probably purchased via telephone. When we checked, the phone number was already dead," Edy said.

Edy added that his team was still examining the youths' statements, including verifying the truth of their accounts. Police are also still recording data regarding the identities and ages of all three.

As of now, the three youths remain in custody at Cipayung Police Station pending urine test results and further examination. Police have assured that the handling process is being carried out professionally and in accordance with procedure.

Regarding witness examination, Cipayung Police Station has not yet formally questioned any witnesses at this stage.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant against suspicious activities in their respective neighbourhoods, whilst leaving the handling of such matters to law enforcement authorities to prevent vigilante action.

The incident in which residents apprehended the three youths suspected of drug distribution mapping went viral on social media via the @info.munjul account.

Residents became suspicious after the youths' movements were deemed questionable whilst they were in the alleyway at night.

"They're mapping here, this is their motorbike — unbelievable, even during the fasting month," a resident said in the video.

Residents then detained the three for questioning. When apprehended, the youths claimed to reside in the Sepakat 5 area of Cilangkap.

In addition to detaining the suspected individuals, residents also confiscated the vehicle used as well as items suspected to be narcotics.

The three youths were subsequently handed over to Cipayung Police Station for identification and further examination.
