Ahead of the 2026 Lebaran exodus, the Traffic Unit of Sidoarjo Police Headquarters (Satlantas Polresta Sidoarjo), together with the Transport Department and Health Department, launched an initiative to conduct vehicle safety checks and driver health screenings at several inter-provincial bus company depots.

Joint personnel conducted vehicle roadworthiness inspections (ramp checks) and driver health checks. “We are not only conducting inspections at terminals, but also combing through bus depots to ensure fleet readiness from their bases,” said Sidoarjo Police Traffic Unit Commander AKP Yudhi Anugerah Putra on Thursday, 12 March.

This proactive measure has been carried out over the past three days, visiting inter-provincial bus depots one by one. Every fleet departing the depot must undergo thorough inspections, ranging from tyre condition and braking systems to light functionality and availability of emergency equipment. The inspections aim to ensure all Lebaran transport fleets are in prime condition and roadworthy, providing comfort and safety to bus passengers.

Beyond vehicle fitness, driver health is a primary concern. All drivers scheduled to work must undergo a series of health tests, including blood pressure measurement, blood sugar testing, and urinalysis. Officers ensure they are free from drug influence or other harmful substances.

New innovations have been implemented for this year’s Lebaran transport operations. Police and the Transport Department have collaborated with bus operators to install speed-tracking devices on each fleet. These devices monitor bus speeds during journeys to prevent accidents caused by reckless driving.

Inspections were conducted at Cahaya Bakti Utama (CBU) Bus Company at Sumber Terminal, Bhineka Sangkuriang Bus Company in the Ciperna area, and Sahabat Bus Company in Weru District. For Lebaran transport command posts, pursuant to instructions from the Class I Regional Land Transport Office for West Java, a post has been established at the Cijago Toll Exit junction to monitor and assist police in managing traffic congestion.

During the checks, officers discovered buses using vulcanised tyres and lacking complete vehicle documentation. The Directorate General of Land Transport under the Ministry of Transport previously inspected 85 bus units at the KM 45A rest area on the Jagorawi Toll Road in Bogor Regency on 20-21 December 2025. Ramp checks for land transport will be conducted nationally from 7 November 2025 to 2 January 2026.
