Police conduct forensic tests on pair of calf remains from Depok mutilation case

Polda Metro Jaya is carrying out physical matching and forensic testing on a pair of body parts, specifically a right and left calf, to confirm their connection to a mutilation case in Depok, West Java.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained that the medico-forensic examination is focused on testing the compatibility of the anatomical structure as well as DNA evidence from the leg parts found by residents within a radius of two to three kilometres from the initial crime scene.

“The team’s current focus is on conducting forensic matching. We need to ascertain whether the two right and left calf parts found are indeed part of the mutilation victim’s body currently under investigation,” he said when confirmed on Sunday.

Previously, the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya investigated the discovery of body parts suspected to be human legs in the Limo River, Limo District, Depok City, West Java, on Wednesday (19/8).

The body parts were first discovered by two officers from the Limo Water Resources Agency while carrying out routine cleaning in the river area.

“Water resources officers were cleaning the river when they found body parts suspected to be legs. The officers immediately reported the discovery to the police,” said Head of Special Team 2 Unit 1 of the Violent Crime Sub-directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, First Inspector Breggy Yesaya Imanuel Sutijono, in his statement in Jakarta on Thursday (20/8).

He explained that after receiving the report, a joint team along with the Identification Unit of Polda Metro Jaya immediately went to the location to process the crime scene.

The Violent Crime Sub-directorate of Polda Metro Jaya has conducted 51 reconstruction scenes in the murder and mutilation case that occurred in the Tanah Merah area, Pancoran Mas, Depok.

Head of Unit 1 of the Violent Crime Sub-directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, Police Commissioner Dimitri Mahendra, confirmed that the entire series of event re-enactments has been carried out.

“That is correct, the reconstruction has been completed. There are a total of 30 scenes, each with sub-scenes, bringing the total to 51 reconstruction scenes,” said Dimitri when confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/8).

Dimitri explained that the reconstruction produced new factual findings that have an impact on the determination of the charges against the suspect with the initials SA.
