Police Concerned as Drugs Target Bekasi's Youth, Urge Public to Help Anticipate

Bekasi City Police have uncovered 99 drug cases in Bekasi City and arrested 26 suspects during the period from July to 12 August 2026. Bekasi City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Putu Kholis Aryana said the majority of drug distribution targets the younger generation.

“(The targets of drug distribution) are multi-targeted. But the majority that concerns us is the younger generation. This is very dangerous,” Senior Commissioner Kholis explained at a press conference at Bekasi City Police Headquarters on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

Kholis said some residents had asked for their friends to be rehabilitated because they were already dependent on illegal drugs such as tramadol. He stressed that police are open to facilitating rehabilitation for residents willing to recover from tramadol dependence.

“Some have come forward to us asking that their friends who are already dependent on tramadol be facilitated for rehabilitation so they can recover. We are also opening this opportunity because for us it is not only about law enforcement, but we will also facilitate residents who are willing to be treated, rehabilitated and cured of tramadol dependence,” he said.

Kholis also appreciated initiatives from various segments of society to help stop drug distribution. He said the community will empower groups directly involved in drug prevention.

“I have met many layers of society, some have started to have ideas and initiatives to empower communities that will later be directly involved in preventing the abuse of dangerous drugs. This actually emerged from the young people of Bekasi. This is what I appreciate,” he said.

Furthermore, Kholis said his office will hold direct discussions with the community to prevent drugs. According to him, drug prevention in Bekasi City will involve the community.

“Later there will be several activities, such as discussions, then focus group discussions, and other activities according to the communities involved, so that drug abuse prevention campaigns can be massive and use methods that make community members more open to us,” he said.

Police are also encouraging residents to contact the National Police 110 call centre, especially if the identity of a narcotics offender is known. Kholis assured that his office will take action based on reports received.

“If the identity can be identified, we also have the 110 service that can be used by all residents to get a response according to the information reported to us,” he added.

For information, Bekasi City Police uncovered 99 narcotics cases in Bekasi City during the period from July to 12 August 2026. In these disclosures, police arrested 26 suspects and seized a number of pieces of evidence, including 35,000 tramadol pills and synthetic tobacco.

Police also succeeded in arresting 26 perpetrators in the cases. Kholis said the evidence seized included dangerous drugs such as tramadol, trihexyphenidyl and Hexymer.

“Among the dangerous drugs most widely abused, distributed illegally and even produced illegally are tramadol, trihexyphenidyl and Hexymer. There are a total of 26 suspects in cases involving the distribution of dangerous drugs such as tramadol and similar substances,” Kholis explained.

Bekasi City Police also succeeded in uncovering the distribution of synthetic tobacco, or ‘sinte’, in Bekasi City. Police uncovered two cases of synthetic tobacco production in a single series of events.
