Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) Head of Public Relations Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto said on Tuesday that concrete efforts to tackle street brawls had been strengthened through the “Guard Jakarta” declaration by various community groups during a public order muster on 14 February 2026, which was subsequently followed up with the establishment of an Anti-Brawl Task Force by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief.

“This step marks an important milestone in uniting the vision of law enforcement officers and residents for the safety of their neighbourhoods,” Budi said.

He stressed that the primary focus of the Anti-Brawl Task Force is on preventive and humanistic measures through collaborative citizen patrols and mobile patrols by the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) and Community Policing (Sabhara) units.

“Throughout the period from 12 to 23 February 2026, officers intensively combed through vulnerable spots to disperse groups of youths identified as intending to engage in street brawls,” Budi said.

He noted that the approach had also proven effective in mapping potential security disturbances before they escalated into physical confrontations on the streets.

“The Police Chief greatly appreciates the active collaboration of the community. Our approach this time is very humanistic, yet remains firm,” Budi said.

He explained that whilst three fatalities from street brawls were recorded in January, during the Ramadan period under the Task Force’s oversight the death toll had fallen to zero — a development regarded as a significant improvement.

“This is a collective achievement between the Indonesian National Police and residents in upholding the dignity of the holy month,” Budi said.

Polda Metro Jaya confirmed that preventive efforts and joint patrols would continue to be intensified on an ongoing basis, so that the downward trend in street brawls across Jakarta and its surrounding buffer zones could be maintained, allowing the public to go about their activities with a sense of safety and comfort.

“The synergy between Brimob, Sabhara and residents has now become the key formula in creating modern, community-based public order and security stability,” Budi concluded.
