Police Commissioner Suyudi Ario Seto has emphasised that the spirit of the former National Police Chief, General Hoegeng Iman Santoso, must serve as a moral compass. He stated that the honesty and simplicity exemplified by Hoegeng must be upheld.

“The spirit of Police General Hoegens Iman Santoso should serve as a moral compass, embodying honesty, simplicity, courage as integrity, avoiding conflicts of interest, and steadfastness in performing duties,” said Suyudi during a fitness and propriety test at Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Thursday (1/10/2026).

Suyudi asserted that Hoegeng’s spirit must not merely remain a piece of nostalgia. He insisted that the values taught by Hoegeng must be integrated into the systems within the Indonesian National Police (Polri) institution.

“The spirit of Hoegeng must not stop as nostalgia. His values must become a system. Integrity must be included in promotions, service must be included in KPIs, complaints must result in corrections, technology must be auditable, and investigations must be strong in evidence and the protection of rights,” he stated.

Suyudi explained that change within the Polri cannot occur if leaders only issue requests. Change, he noted, must be proven in the field.

“Change in the Polri is impossible if leaders only ask members to change. Change must start from the leadership and be proven in the field,” he said.

“I will go into the field not to seek the spotlight, but to observe problems, listen to members and the community, make decisions, and ensure those decisions are implemented,” he added.
