Police commission selection to start

JAKARTA: As an initial step toward reforming the country's police service, the government is set to select the members of the National Police Commission between May 1 and May 20.

Candidates must be aged at least 45, not have ties to a political party, and never have been convicted of a crime.

"We will shortlist 12 candidates to be submitted to the President for approval," National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Aryanto Budhiharjo told a press conference on Wednesday.

The commission will consist of nine members, six of whom will be shortlisted from the 12 candidates undergoing the selection process, while the remaining three will represent the Office of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.

Further information regarding the recruitment process is available from the National Police Headquarters secretariat on Jl. Trunojoyo in South Jakarta. --JP
