Police close three money changers

CIREBON, West Java: Cirebon Police in West Java closed three illegal money changer shops in the city, which have a daily turnover of hundreds of millions of rupiah.

The police also arrested the three owners of the shops, Grage Artha Mandiri, MC Restu and MC Rizky. The detained owners were identified as Rohman, Ucup Supriyadi and Yudi Hermawan.

"The three firms have been closed because they operated illegally. They don't have an operating license from Bank Indonesia (the central bank)," Cirebon Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Siswandi said on Wednesday.

"We are investigating their owners," he added.

He said the closure was aimed at preventing losses on the part of customers engaged in trade deals with the three companies.

However, there were no reports of losses incurred by customers.

Siswandi said the closure went smoothly after the police arrived with warrants to arrest the owners.

He said the three premises could be reopened if they obtained business permits from the central bank.--JP
