Police Clarify Viral Video of Officers Watching Football While Receiving Report

West Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head, AKP Wisnu Wirawan, has clarified a viral video posted by the Threads account @junist.hairdressing, which appeared to show Cengkareng Police officers watching a football match while receiving a report from an alleged assault victim. Wisnu stated that the officers seen in the video were not the ones handling public reports, but were instead personnel preparing for a stationary raid briefing in the Cengkareng area. “The members seen in the video are the Supervisory Officer and members who were about to conduct a stationary raid briefing,” Wisnu said when contacted in Jakarta on Monday evening. He added that Cengkareng Police had previously provided clarification in the comments section of the viral video and via direct message to the account. According to Wisnu, an unidentified adult woman arrived at Cengkareng Police Station on Sunday, 28 June, at approximately 11.50 p.m. Western Indonesia Time to report an alleged assault. However, before her arrival, another report regarding a motor vehicle theft was already being processed. “The SPKT officer then called the criminal investigation unit on duty and informed them that there were two reports. The first was a vehicle theft report, the second was a domestic violence case,” Wisnu explained. Based on the Cengkareng Police Chief’s account, the ongoing processing of the vehicle theft report meant the woman was asked to wait briefly. Shortly after, the criminal investigation duty officer came to the lobby to serve the earlier complainant. When a siren sounded for the standby briefing, the woman immediately left the police station without notifying anyone. “The siren sounded for the standby briefing. At the same time the siren sounded, the female domestic violence complainant went straight home without any notification,” Wisnu said. He confirmed the woman left without filing a formal police report. “Because she was impatient, she made the video and left the police station without making a report. That is the explanation from the Police Chief in his clarification,” Wisnu stated. He stressed there was no neglect of duty, as the officers in the video were preparing for a stationary raid in Cengkareng. “So there was no neglect,” Wisnu asserted. He also urged the public to immediately report any security disturbances by calling 110, assuring that the police will follow up on reports and provide a response.
