Police Clarify Viral Disturbance on Magelang Street in Jogja
A group of youths wearing black shirts in the Jalan Magelang area, on the border of Yogyakarta City, were dispersed by police officers yesterday afternoon. The police assured that there was no brawl in the incident and the situation is now conducive.
The Head of Public Relations of Yogyakarta Police Resort, Ipda Anton Budi Susilo, stated that initially the group of youths was known to have gathered at a cafe on Jalan Magelang, which falls under the jurisdiction of Mlati Police Sector, Sleman Police Resort.
“They were directed to move westward through the city boundary road segment from Jalan Magelang, then through Jalan Rogoyudan I Kragilan, connecting to Jalan Jambon towards the west entering Jalan Kabupaten in the Gamping area, Sleman. This was to disperse their movement and prevent potential public order disturbances in the city area,” said Anton when contacted on Sunday (19/4/2026).
Anton added that officers also carried out a humane dispersal by positioning official vehicles across the road to anticipate developments in the situation. This effort temporarily caused traffic congestion, but it was only brief.
“This step also received a positive response from the local community, who helped advise the group to return to their respective homes without entering Yogyakarta City,” he explained.
Anton emphasised that information circulating about a brawl or fights between residents is untrue. He also assured that no police officers were assaulted in the incident.
“We need to emphasise that there was no brawl or officers being beaten. That information is untrue,” he stressed.
