Police Clarify Room Where Weapons Found in South Jakarta School Is a Basement, Not a Bunker

Police have confirmed that the room where hundreds of weapons were found at a private school in the Pondok Pinang area, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, is not a bunker. They stated that the room is actually a basement. “It is not a bunker, but rather a basement connected to a room,” said Ipda Alpino De Tech, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the South Jakarta Metro Police, to reporters on Tuesday (11/8/2026). The basement is directly connected to one of the rooms in the school. The police have conducted an inspection and found no dangerous items inside. “So the basement has stairs, it is connected to a room, and that has also been checked. Nothing was found,” he said. The police, together with the Police Forensic Laboratory Centre (Puslabfor), have processed the crime scene to ensure no other dangerous items were hidden at the school. The police line at the location has now been removed. “Earlier it was examined by Puslabfor, the DNA and weapons sections were also checked. We then removed the police line so the location can be used again by the foundation in accordance with regulations,” he stated. Regarding the discovery of the weapons, a total of 996 firearms were found on 10-11 July 2026, with further discoveries on the evening of Wednesday (5/8). Police detailed that 995 of these were air rifles, while one was a Franchi SPA, SPAS-15 calibre 12 firearm belonging to a man with the initials DS, who serves as a director at PT Lokta Karya Perbakin. The case is believed to have surfaced due to an internal conflict within the foundation’s management. Alhadid, the legal representative of the former foundation chairman with the initials IWD, stated that the opposing faction within the foundation was already aware of the weapons stored in the warehouse. He expressed surprise that the foundation appeared to be unaware of the weapons’ origins. “I also do not know why it suddenly came to light, they act as if they just found out. In fact, they knew and there was a permit for it,” Alhadid revealed. He suspects the issue arose from an internal conflict in the school foundation’s management, which began with the unilateral dismissal of a previous foundation supervisor. Meanwhile, the foundation’s legal representative, Hermawanto, confirmed the management dispute. He explained that the conflict was the reason they gained access to the room. After the former chairman was dismissed, they were able to open the room and discovered hundreds of weapons of various types, suspected narcotics, and 30 pornographic compact discs (CDs).
