Police Clarify Odd-Even Plate Policy at Jakarta Toll Gates

The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya has stressed that the odd-even number plate policy at several toll gates in Jakarta is not a new measure. Police stated that it is an existing regulation that directly intersects with the capital’s main thoroughfares. This statement was made in response to a widely circulated issue on social media regarding the implementation of odd-even vehicle restrictions at 28 entry and exit toll gates in Jakarta. “Actually, this is not a new policy. The exit and entry gate points are part of the existing odd-even enforcement,” said the Director of Traffic for Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Komarudin, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (26/6/2026). Komarudin explained that the rule refers to DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 88 of 2019 concerning Traffic Restrictions with an Odd-Even System. Under this regulation, a number of main roads such as Jalan Pintu Besar Selatan, Gajah Mada, and Hayam Wuruk are required to implement the odd-even rule. “Therefore, toll gates that have intersections or entry-exit points directly touching these main roads automatically follow the applicable odd-even rule,” he said. Komarudin also clarified that the restriction does not apply inside the freeway. “It is not inside the toll road. The toll road itself is under the jurisdiction of Jasa Marga, not the odd-even enforcement,” he stated. Regarding the news about the specific number of “28 toll gate points”, Komarudin suggested that the public verify the list with the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, as the regulation concerning road zoning falls under the authority of the local government. Enforcement against violators in the intersection areas of these toll gates continues as usual, relying on electronic traffic law enforcement camera technology.
