Police Claim May Day 2026 Commemoration Runs Orderly, Safe, and Conducive
JAKARTA - Indonesian National Police (Polri) claim that the overall commemoration of International Labour Day or May Day 2026 proceeded in an orderly, safe, and conducive manner. Head of the Polri Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, commended the labour masses for expressing their aspirations in a peaceful and orderly fashion. “Polri appreciates the labour masses who expressed their aspirations in an orderly manner during today’s International Labour Day commemoration. This demonstrates a disciplined attitude in voicing opinions and a collective responsibility to maintain a safe and conducive situation,” said Isir in his statement on Saturday (2/5/2026). According to Isir, the peaceful execution of the action reflects a spirit of mutual respect between workers and security apparatus in the field. He emphasised that Polri is present not only to secure but also to facilitate the expression of aspirations in a safe and comfortable manner for all parties. “We observe a good sense of mutual respect between personnel in the field and the workers. Polri respects the public’s right to express opinions, and the action participants also contribute to maintaining order together,” stated Isir. This approach is implemented by all police ranks, both in Jakarta and in other regions. With this approach, the International Labour Day commemoration activities can proceed smoothly without disturbing broader public interests. Polri also extends thanks to all labour elements, trade unions, and the public who helped maintain a peaceful atmosphere during the 2026 May Day commemoration. For information, the 2026 May Day celebration in Jakarta was centred at Monas Intersection Field, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026). In addition, May Day celebrations were held at several other points, one of which is the area near the DPR Building, Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto attended the 2026 May Day event held at Monas.
