Police Chief's Statement on Recommendations for Career Progression for Prospective Police Leaders
Jakarta – National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has spoken out on the recommendations from the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform (KPRP) regarding career progression or career paths for prospective Indonesian National Police (Polri) leaders.
He emphasised that these recommendations will be followed up by the Assistant Police Chief for Human Resources (As SDM Kapolri) to prepare all potential members to become leaders of the Bhayangkara Corps.
“In general, the recommendation for career paths means that from As SDM in particular, it provides a picture related to prospective Polri leaders, not just the National Police Chief,” said Sigit on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
The four-star general explained that As SDM will prepare members with eligible capabilities who deserve space and opportunities to become prospective leaders.
“Whether at the provincial police level, at the national headquarters level, or as the highest Polri leader,” he said.
Because, according to Sigit, it is already the obligation of Polri to prepare prospective leaders of the Bhayangkara Corps. However, the appointment of the National Police Chief still has its own regulations.
“What is clear is that all of this is part of what we must prepare, and of course, it is the authority of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) to propose, and the policy is with the President,” said Sigit.
Previously, the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform explained that one of the recommendations submitted to President Prabowo Subianto was improvements related to preparing prospective national police chiefs with structured career track records.
This was conveyed by the Secretary of the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform, Commissioner General (Ret.) Ahmad Dofiri, stating that the appointment of the national police chief is the president’s prerogative. However, the selected candidates must be prepared with clear career track records without any gaps of violations.
“The person who will become the national police chief is someone with a rank below that of the national police chief. So who? Three stars. When the three-star has gone through a good career path, there is a track record of becoming a three-star properly, has passed the selection,” said Dofiri during a press conference at the Secretariat of the Police Reform Commission office in South Jakarta on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
He added that the career track record must also be reviewed from prospective National Police Chief candidates when they were still at the rank of Second Police Inspector, which is regulated rigidly in the Polri career development system.
