In general, the recommendation is for the career path, meaning from the Human Resources Agency in particular, to provide a picture of potential Polri leaders, not just the Kapolri,” said Sigit in response to a journalist’s question at the Bareskrim Polri building in South Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026). Sigit explained that the Human Resources Agency will prepare members with the capabilities that meet the requirements and deserve opportunities to become potential leaders. “Those who have the capabilities that are certainly eligible and deserving to be given space and opportunities to become potential leaders, whether at the Polda level, at the Mabes level, or as the highest Polri leader,” he clarified. General Sigit stated that Polri is obliged to prepare candidates for leaders of the Bhayangkara Corps. However, he continued, the appointment of the Kapolri is the President’s prerogative. “Clearly, all of that is part of what we must prepare, and of course, it is the authority of Kompolnas to propose, and the policy lies with the President,” explained General Sigit. Previously, the Police Reform Acceleration Commission explained that one of the recommendations submitted to President Prabowo Subianto was improvements regarding the preparation of Kapolri candidates with good and competent career track records. Secretary of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission, retired Commissioner General Ahmad Dofiri, stated that the appointment of the Kapolri is the President’s prerogative. However, the candidates selected must be prepared with clear career track records without any violations. “The person who will become Kapolri is someone ranked below Kapolri. So who? Three-star. When the three-star has gone through a good career path, there is a track record of becoming a three-star properly, has passed the selection,” said Dofiri during a press conference at the Police Reform Commission Secretariat office in South Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5/2026). Dofiri explained that the career track record must be reviewed from the rank of Second Lieutenant, which has been rigidly regulated in the Polri career development system. “For High Officers, when someone becomes a Pati, ideally, that is what is recommended. Ideally, when someone becomes a Pati in Polri, the regulation is clear: a person must have 25 years of officer service or MDP,” he clarified.
