Police Chief Urges Public Not to Be Provoked by Issues That Could Fracture National Unity
Jakarta, (ANTARA) - Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has urged the public not to be swayed by issues that could tear apart the nation’s unity. He said this during a Ramadan Safari at the South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumatera Selatan) in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Saturday night, 7 March. ‘The people must all be united so that in facing any situation we are in one line. Our shared hope is that the public facing the current situation should not be easily drawn in by issues that could worsen and divide unity,’ he said, as quoted in an official statement released in Jakarta on Sunday. On that occasion, the Police Chief also noted that all elements of the nation managed to respond to the challenges facing Indonesia, for example during the COVID-19 pandemic. The success was thanks to unity and solidarity, enabling the country to continue growing its economy. ‘Because when the Umara (government leaders), ulama, and the whole community are united, we can recover; our economy can grow at that time,’ he added. Therefore, amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, he urged all members of society to unite to face the dynamics together. ‘Be assured that the government will certainly take the best steps. The President has promised that I will protect all my people, all the blood that flows in this country in accordance with the constitutional mandate,’ he stated. ‘And we all must support what his steps are as a manifestation that Indonesia, though consisting of diverse ethnic groups, shares a common determination and spirit to unite in safeguarding our beloved country,’ he added.
