Police Chief urges personnel to remain vigilant against disasters during Eid holiday
Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has urged his personnel to anticipate the potential occurrence of disasters during the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026, especially in disaster-prone areas such as those susceptible to floods and landslides. He also requested that the Disaster Task Forces at posts in the regions prepare themselves adequately in terms of personnel as well as facilities and infrastructure. “I instruct all ranks in areas with potential for disasters to ensure that all Disaster Task Forces at integrated posts prepare themselves as best as possible, particularly if there are potentials for extreme disasters forecasted by BMKG,” said Sigit while conducting monitoring of security for the Eid Takbiran night at the Integrated Post in Merdeka Field of the Medan Police Resort, North Sumatra, on Friday. Sigit explained that BMKG has been conducting weather modification operations in recent days. This is part of efforts to manage and prevent floods and landslides in areas along the routes for the homecoming journey and return trips. “And alhamdulillah, this has also succeeded in reducing the potential for extreme rain, although the coming days will still require anticipation,” he stated. One tourist spot he highlighted is water-based attractions. He requested that all forms of security for tourists be given proper attention. In addition, visitor capacity should be adjusted to prevent unwanted incidents. “Please ensure thoroughly the safety of the public who will engage in tourism activities, especially at water attractions, to make sure capacity does not exceed the prepared limits and that the number of rescue equipment matches the number of visitors entering, so that if unwanted incidents occur, the safety of the public using these attractions, particularly water ones, can be properly addressed,” he said. Sigit also reminded the public to remain cautious after completing their homecoming and family visits. “I still advise caution on the roads, utilise rest areas, utilise integrated posts that can be used for resting, and do not rush to arrive quickly at the expense of your own safety or that of other road users,” he stated.
