Police Chief Urges Brimob to Prepare for Security Disruptions Stemming from Middle East Conflict
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed the Brimob troops to anticipate potential security disruptions arising from geopolitical conditions, as these could affect the situation in Indonesia.
He conveyed this during the opening roll call of the technical work meeting (rakernis) of the Polri Brimob Corps at the Brimob Polri Headquarters Field in Depok City on Tuesday (21/4/2026). Initially, he asked members to follow geopolitical conditions.
“Respected colleagues, I always emphasise in every opportunity that we all, especially Brimob, must always be prepared and continue to monitor developments in the global situation, geopolitics, and geo-economics, which will undoubtedly impact escalations both abroad and domestically,” he said.
He urged Brimob to monitor and be vigilant against any potential impacts from the conflict between Israel-the United States and Iran. If peace is not achieved soon, the escalation of that conflict could potentially widen.
“On one side, there are many victims, thousands of victims, even tens of thousands who have become casualties, both civilians, buildings, public facilities, and of course disruptions in the energy sector,” he explained.
He stated that some time ago, attacks occurred on oil refineries in the Middle East region. Then, conflict also occurred in the Strait of Hormuz.
“Thus, this impacts the energy situation, especially since nearly 20% passes through the Strait of Hormuz, and it affects the global energy situation,” he revealed.
According to him, several affected countries have declared a national energy emergency status. In some countries, he said, announcements have been made to use energy as efficiently as possible.
“Even some countries have started regulating the implementation of WFH (work from home), including Indonesia, which is currently also implementing WFH or WFO (work from office) once a week,” he explained.
He asked Brimob members to prepare to face situations arising from the impact of that conflict. Because rising oil prices could disrupt the community’s economy.
“The impact on energy is extraordinary, and this will certainly disrupt the foundations and economic stability in all countries, including Indonesia,” he said.
The impact of rising fuel prices is inevitable as a result of that conflict. Therefore, Sigit asked that potential public reactions be anticipated.
“Of course, this will provoke reactions and potential escalations that increase, especially related to domestic security issues,” he explained.
“Therefore, we all must always be ready, we all must always be alert, we all must prepare ourselves to continue training to face all possible dynamics,” he added.
In recent times, dynamics have been faced by Polri. Therefore, Sigit hopes that this can make his members more mature and ready to face disruptions.
“And of course, evaluation, simulation, training, and solidarity among all members in the field will certainly be the key to our success in carrying out missions or tasks,” he concluded.
