Police chief takes stringent measures

UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: Head of the provincial police Brig. Gen. Karyoso said that 1,657 of his subordinates were punished for disciplinary reasons last year.

He said three of those were expelled from the police force, Antara reported.

The punishments varied from disciplinary actions to trial at military tribunals. As many as 68 of the police officers are of middle ranks, he said.

The crime rate in South and Southeast Sulawesi increased by 11 percent to 8,587 cases last year compared to that of the previous year. (pwn)
