Police Chief Sumarni Denies Involvement in MBG Corruption Case
Bekasi Metro Police Chief Kombes Sumarni has denied accusations implicating her in an alleged corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, which is currently under investigation by the Attorney General’s Office.
“I firmly state that I have no involvement whatsoever in the alleged irregularities of the MBG programme or activities within the National Nutrition Agency,” she said in Cikarang on Thursday.
Previously, Sumarni’s name appeared in a viral social media post containing a list of parties allegedly involved in the case. The list included the names of several politicians, officials, and law enforcement officers.
Sumarni admitted she had only communicated with former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Sony Sonjaya, regarding a request to establish a Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) within the Buntet Islamic Boarding School in Cirebon.
“I was asked for help by the person concerned to assist in setting up an SPPG in the boarding school area in Cirebon. That was it, nothing else,” she stated.
She explained that her communication with Sony Sonjaya was limited to discussing the proposal for establishing the kitchen service unit and never touched on project matters or finances.
“It was just communication. Many parties and figures were said to be given an SPPG. But in the end, it was never realised,” she said.
She explained that several parties who had been promised the programme had complained due to the lack of clarity on its realisation, prompting her to contact Sony Sonjaya for an explanation.
“I chatted and discussed with him, asking permission, ‘Sir, please help with the SPPG because many feel they were just given false promises.’ That’s all. There were no payments. I was not paid, I did not pay, and I did not gain any profit whatsoever,” she asserted.
Sumarni once again dismissed the issue linking her to the alleged criminal corruption in the MBG management.
“That is not true. I was not involved in corruption at the National Nutrition Agency. I only asked for help for the Buntet Islamic Boarding School so that an SPPG could be established there,” she said.
The Attorney General’s Office is still gathering information from various parties regarding the alleged irregularities in the management of the MBG programme.
