National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has emphasised the importance of solidarity and synergy between the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri). This is particularly vital in facing various global challenges whilst maintaining national security stability.

The Police Chief made these remarks whilst delivering a speech at a joint TNI-Polri Ramadan breaking-of-fast ceremony at the Bhayangkara Parade Ground of the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta this afternoon. In his remarks, the Police Chief stated that the Ramadan momentum provides an opportunity to strengthen fraternal bonds whilst reinforcing institutional synergy in addressing various national issues and challenges.

“Our hope is that this momentum further strengthens the bonds of fraternity and our synergy in facing various national issues and challenges that require solidarity and cohesion,” said General Sigit on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

During the occasion, General Sigit also highlighted unstable global geopolitical dynamics. He referenced the conflict occurring in the Middle East, which has resulted in increased international tensions.

The former Head of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Bureau noted that conflicts in several countries have caused large-scale civilian casualties and triggered military escalation in the region. According to him, this situation could have far-reaching impacts on the global situation.

“Wars inevitably produce extraordinary effects because they affect civilians and civilian infrastructure, thereby creating humanitarian crises, economic crises, and social crises,” he continued.

In relation to this, General Sigit assessed that geopolitical tensions also pose potential risks to the global economy, including crude oil prices.

Rising global crude oil prices, he added, could impact a country’s fiscal capacity and potentially trigger inflation if not properly managed.

For this reason, according to him, global stability and international diplomatic efforts are vital to dampening conflicts to prevent further escalation and impact on the global economy.

Amidst these global dynamics, General Sigit emphasised the importance of strengthening national self-reliance, as emphasised by President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, the current government is promoting various national strategic programmes, particularly in the food security and energy security sectors, so that Indonesia can stand on its own feet.

“Some time ago, he continuously promoted various programmes, principally addressing the current situation and how Indonesia can truly stand on its own feet. One of these is his promotion of food security and energy security,” said General Sigit.

He stated that TNI-Polri plays an important role as the spearhead in supporting these programmes, including escorting and securing various government strategic initiatives.

Beyond maintaining security stability, both institutions are expected to be able to create a conducive investment climate so that investment, both from domestic and foreign sources, can flourish.

“Of course, we must also ensure that this investment climate remains conducive so that investments that have already been opened through the aforementioned programmes and downstream value addition initiatives can truly materialise,” he said.

General Sigit also emphasised the importance of maintaining national unity amidst Indonesia’s diversity, which comprises various ethnic groups, religions, and cultures. He referenced Indonesia’s historical experience of colonial rule for hundreds of years as a result of divisive politics.

“Our choice is to unite in diversity or we choose to be incited and divided, leading to decline, and it is our collective responsibility to protect our beloved Republic of Indonesia,” said General Sigit.

He reiterated President Prabowo’s message that TNI-Polri share the same history in the struggle to defend Indonesian independence. For this reason, both institutions must continue to work in synergy in protecting national defence and security.

He emphasised that the TNI must be a people’s military, whilst Polri must be a police force that serves the people, as per the mandate frequently conveyed by the President.

“The President has repeatedly stated in his speeches that TNI-Polri must always be united, cohesive and work in synergy. He stated that TNI-Polri were both born from the crucible of struggle and together maintained independence,” he said.
