Indonesian National Police Chief (Kapolri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the peak of the Lebaran 2026 return traffic is expected to occur from Tuesday (24/3/2026) until 27 March. This was conveyed after attending a video conference at the ITDC Command Centre in Nusa Dua, South Kuta, Badung, Bali.

On that occasion, the Police Chief was accompanied by Bali Deputy Governor I Nyoman Giri Prasta and Bali Police Chief Daniel Adityajaya. Listyo requested all ranks to prepare to secure and regulate the smooth flow of the return traffic.

“The peak return traffic is today, 24th, then 25-27, which is the government’s policy to provide BFA. This can also be an option for the public so that not everyone chooses to return today,” said Listyo at ITDC Nusa Dua on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

He added that monitoring through the ITDC Command Centre is also being conducted to observe tourist movements in Bali and other regions. Although it is currently low season, there has been a 1.49 per cent increase in domestic tourist visits compared to normal days.

“Then, in general, we see tourist visits. In Bali, it is currently low season, but there is an increase from domestic tourists, a 1.49 per cent increase compared to normal days,” he explained.

Previously, Listyo also mentioned that there was an increase in outbound traffic compared to last year. However, traffic accident rates and fatalities have actually decreased.

“Of course, this is our emphasis so that until the entire return traffic series is completed, these figures can be maintained,” urged Listyo.

Nevertheless, he stated that there are aspects that need to be evaluated to improve the outbound services for 2027.

Rising Tourists

In addition, Listyo highlighted several areas with surges in tourists, such as the Malioboro area in Yogyakarta, as well as Pangandaran, Cianjur, and Puncak in West Java.

“Some regions where tourist numbers have increased significantly are Jogja, mainly in Malioboro. Then West Java in Pangandaran, Cianjur, or Puncak,” he explained.

He also warned of potential congestion at Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi, East Java, which is one of the critical points for return traffic.

“Mainly Ketapang, because it will be the return flow. However, on the other hand, there may be additional tourists who have not yet finished. This is part of what we must secure,” he added.

Regarding weather conditions, Listyo revealed the potential for rain in eastern Indonesia. He asked all personnel to be on alert for possible extreme weather, including preparing traffic engineering if necessary.

“Then engineering and regulation can also be better. In conditions where certainly unwanted things happen due to extreme weather. Several such things are our notes,” he concluded.
