Police Chief states KPRP recommendations to be followed up with regulatory revisions

Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the recommendations compiled by the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform (KPRP) will be followed up through regulatory revisions. “There are matters that require improvements through revisions to the law, as well as internal aspects that we will address with Police Chief Regulations (Perkap) and Police Regulations (Perpol),” said National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency building in Jakarta on Thursday. In addition, he continued, there are recommendations that will be followed up with Government Regulations (PP). These are recommendations related to cross-sectoral matters between ministries. “Thus, this can address the hopes and demands of the public,” he said. The leader of the Bhayangkara Corps also emphasised that the Indonesian National Police is open and flexible to police reform recommendations. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto received the final report and KPRP recommendations submitted by KPRP Chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5). The President received several books, including those titled “Bridge of Aspirations for Police Reform” and “Follow-up on Recommendations”. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Correctional Services, who is also a KPRP member, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, conveyed that the compiled recommendations are substantive and have the potential to drive significant changes, including the possibility of revising the Police Law. He emphasised that various recommendations are expected to strengthen the oversight system and enhance the accountability and professionalism of the Indonesian National Police.
