Police Chief States 2.3 Million Vehicles Exit Jakarta via Toll Roads
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that a total of 2.3 million vehicles exited Jakarta via toll roads for the Eid al-Fitr homecoming journey up to Tuesday (24/3). “As of 24 March, it is recorded that approximately 2,380,401 vehicles exited Jakarta through toll roads,” said Sigit at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate on Tuesday (24/3). Sigit conveyed that the peak of the return flow for Eid is predicted to occur on Tuesday. The National Police have also implemented a national one-way system from KM 414 at Kalikangkung Toll Gate to KM 70 on the Japek Toll Road to anticipate the surge in homecoming vehicles. Sigit urged homecomers to prioritise safety during the return journey. He also encouraged them to utilise facilities provided by the government, from rest areas and service posts to integrated posts. “Of course, our hope is that the public undertaking the return will continue to maintain security and safety,” he said. On the same occasion, Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi estimated that 285,000 vehicles would return at the peak of the return flow today. “Today, it is likely that the return will occur today with an estimated number of vehicles of 285,000,” he stated. With such a number, we hope that the public, in using the flow or using this toll road, can undertake the homecoming well, plan the return properly, and utilise the rest areas already provided by Jasa Marga,” said Budi again. Budi mentioned that an open-close policy is currently in effect for Rest Area KM 62B and 52B. This is done to prevent the accumulation of homecoming vehicles as occurred during the previous outbound flow. “Therefore, there are efforts so that this return, this return flow, does not experience density as happened on the 18th, so several rest areas are subject to open-close policies,” he said.
