The Head of the Indonesian National Police’s Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas Polri), Lieutenant General Agus Suryonugroho, released a media coverage team today to monitor public movement towards their home villages. Lieutenant General Agus ensured that the state would provide the best service to the public during Operation Ketupat 2026.

The media mudik team release ceremony took place at Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (11 March 2026). In his remarks, Lieutenant General Agus emphasised that Operation Ketupat 2026 is not merely a traffic management operation, but a humanitarian operation.

“Operation Ketupat 2026 is a humanitarian operation. Operation Ketupat is not only a traffic management operation, not merely securing the flow of people returning home and back, but the state is present, the Police are present amongst the community to ensure the sacred month of Ramadan and Eid festivities proceed safely, orderly, and with security from criminal acts and smooth traffic flow,” said Lieutenant General Agus at the location.

This year’s Operation Ketupat operation carries the tagline ‘Safe Journey Home, Happy Families’, in accordance with instructions from Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. The tagline reflects the state’s commitment to ensuring the return-home tradition proceeds safely and comfortably.

The strategy prepared includes cross-sectoral collaboration to ensure stability of security and public order (harkamtibmas) as well as security, safety, order, and traffic flow (kamseltibcarlantas).

“Operation Ketupat is a Humanitarian Operation, so of course its key is collaboration and synergy with stakeholders and indeed the state is present for that,” he said.

Lieutenant General Agus emphasised that this year the Traffic Police is making a significant leap by relying on digital technology. Traffic management measures, such as one-way systems and contraflow arrangements, will be decided based on accurate technical parameters, no longer merely manual predictions.

“Safety is not just an appeal but a result of the system we have built based on real-time data technology,” said the two-star general firmly.

He explained that his team has conducted route surveys and field obstacle mitigation. “Several changes in our approach certainly involve evaluating last year’s measures—whether contraflow or one-way systems, including those on arterial roads. Whether the Police currently use digital technology. So it is not based on predictions but on parameters that exist on toll roads and arterial roads,” he explained.

“We have already prepared traffic management engineering measures, so with digital technology that becomes the key to ensuring smooth traffic flow,” he added.

Beyond focusing on Eid return journeys, the Traffic Police reminded of schedule adjustments for the Gilimanuk-Ketapang ferry crossing in Bali in connection with Nyepi Day on 19 March 2026.

“The closure of the Gilimanuk to Ketapang crossing has been scheduled for 05:00 in the morning, whilst from Ketapang to Gilimanuk it will close at 17:00. This arrangement has been formalised in the Governor’s circular letter and has been disseminated to the public,” said Lieutenant General Agus.

In closing, he issued a humanitarian appeal to travellers to maintain their psychological and physical condition during their journey.

“The driver’s physical condition must be truly ready, must be truly in good shape. Don’t be stressed, don’t be drowsy, don’t be anxious. If drowsy, rest, don’t force yourself,” he concluded.

The media mudik team release ceremony was also attended by several senior state officials, including Infrastructure and Regional Development Coordinator Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Digital Infrastructure Coordinating Minister Meutya Hafid, Deputy Transportation Minister Suntana, and Jasa Marga Director Rivan A Purwantono.
