Police Chief Reveals Peak Accident Hours During Lebaran Exodus: 09.00-12.00
JAKARTA – National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has identified the peak traffic accident hours during the 2026 Lebaran exodus as 09.00 in the morning until 12.00 noon.
This was conveyed by Sigit during a Cross-Sectoral Coordination Meeting themed “Safe Exodus, Happy Family” held at the Mutiara Auditorium, STIK-PTIK Lemdiklat Polri, Jakarta, on Monday (2/3/2026).
“If we look at it, there are still peak hours that we must anticipate so that the number of accidents can be reduced. The highest hour is at 09.00-12.00, with 532 accidents,” Sigit said in his presentation on Monday.
Accident numbers fell 31.43 per cent, fatalities dropped 53.24 per cent, serious injuries fell 7.19 per cent, and minor injuries fell 27.85 per cent.
“Although there has been a decline in the number of accidents by 31.43 per cent, deaths have also fallen by 53.24 per cent, serious injuries have also fallen by 7.19 per cent, and minor injuries have fallen by 27.85 per cent,” he explained.
Another cause cited was driver inattention to vehicles ahead. “This may also be caused by increased speed factors, but on the other hand there are also times when people are already tired, drowsy, yet insist on driving, which results in accidents,” he said.
According to him, this is certainly an evaluation for the 2026 exodus season so that the police continue to intensify road safety awareness campaigns. “This is certainly an evaluation for next year 2026, on how we continue to intensify awareness campaigns about road safety so that we can then reduce traffic accident figures,” he stated.
