Police Chief Reveals Decline in Eid al-Fitr Homecoming Accidents and Fatalities for 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo revealed that the number of traffic accidents decreased by 3.23 percent during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming flow. This was stated by Sigit along with all relevant stakeholders after conducting monitoring of security for the Eid Takbiran night at the Integrated Post in Merdeka Field, Medan Police Headquarters, North Sumatra, on Friday night. Meanwhile, Sigit added that the fatality rate or number of deaths also experienced a decline of 24.61 percent compared to Operation Ketupat 2025. Sigit also reminded all homecoming travellers to continue prioritising safety. He asked the public to take advantage of the service posts that have been prepared for resting. “We still advise to be careful on the road, utilise rest areas, utilise integrated posts that can be used for resting, and do not rush to arrive quickly but then endanger one’s own safety or the safety of other road users,” said Sigit. “And tomorrow, Eid prayers will also be held in all regions across Indonesia. And after that, of course, there will be halal bihalal tradition activities and subsequent activities that we must secure,” Sigit concluded.
