JAKARTA - Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) will adjust its organisational structure according to needs and developments in the situation, responding to proposals for institutional reform to make the national police headquarters (Mabes Polri) leaner and to strengthen operations down to the sub-precinct (Polsek) level.

According to Sigit, discussions on organisational structure are one of the internal concerns of Polri, although it is not a new recommendation in the Technical Work Meeting (Rakernis) of the Polri Criminal Investigation Directorate for the 2026 Fiscal Year.

“I think that is a topic for discussion but not a recommendation. So the recommendations are already there, and we have made improvements in governance, both in terms of completeness, starting from human resources, then organisational structure, and so on,” Sigit said at the national police headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026).

“The point is, of course, Polri will adjust the structure according to needs. So the developments in the existing situation will naturally determine the future structure of Polri,” Sigit explained.

“So there are things that we need to compact, but there are also things that we must develop. I think we are flexible in that regard,” he added.

According to Dofiri, the initial Polri reform introduced the concept of “small Mabes, adequate provincial police (Polda), large district police (Polres), and strong Polsek”.

However, the current situation is said to be the opposite because the Mabes structure is considered too large while the strength at the Polsek level is still weak.

“Now the condition is imbalanced, so the Polri organisation at Mabes is large while at Polsek it is weak. Roughly like that. This input comes from retired Polri officers,” said Dofiri on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

Therefore, the KPRP recommends streamlining the Mabes Polri structure and strengthening down to the Polsek level, especially in aspects of public service.
