Police Chief Promotes Metro Police Chief, Citing Follow-Up on President's Directive

Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that he promoted the Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief to a three-star general or Commissioner General (Komjen) as a follow-up to the directive from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. “Follow-up to the President’s directive for Jakarta, the Military Commander and Police Chief to be three-star generals,” Sigit told ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday. It is known that the Metro Jaya Regional Police is now officially led by an officer with the rank of three-star general or Komjen. The position of Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief remains held by Asep Edi Suheri, who previously held the rank of Inspector General and now holds the rank of Komjen. The Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, confirmed the promotion. “It is true that the current Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief holds the rank of Commissioner General of Police based on the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 38/POLRI/YEAR 2026 dated 13 May 2026,” he said. Asep Edi Suheri is a man born in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on 16 November 1972. The man, a graduate of the Police Academy (Akpol) class of 1994, is known to have a long track record in the fields of criminal investigation and law enforcement, particularly in uncovering cybercrime, narcotics, and cross-border crime cases. Previously, Asep was appointed as Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief through Telegram Letter Number ST/1764/VIII/KEP./2025, replacing Commissioner General Karyoto, who was appointed as Head of the Security Maintenance Agency (Kabaharkam) of the National Police. Before serving as Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief in 2025, Asep had served as Chief of Cirebon City Police (2011), Deputy Chief of Bekasi City Police (2015), Chief of Tangerang City Police (2016), Deputy Director of Special Criminal Investigation at National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (2020), Director of Cyber Criminal Investigation at National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (2021), and Deputy Head of National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (2022).
