Police Chief Prepares Police Regulations to Follow Up on Reform Commission Recommendations

JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, will establish several Police Regulations (Perpol) and Chief of Police Regulations (Perkap) to follow up on the recommendations of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission (KPRP). Sigit stated that, in addition to Perkap and Perpol, the KPRP recommendations also need to be addressed by revising the Police Law. “As we have conveyed, there are matters that require improvements through revisions to the law, as well as internal aspects that we will address with Perkap and Perpol,” said Sigit at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026). “There are also those regulated by Government Regulations if they involve cross-sectoral implementations between ministries,” he added. Sigit emphasised that the National Police is open to various reform inputs and adopts a flexible approach in following up on the KPRP recommendations. According to him, one key point promoted in the reform is the strengthening of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) as an external oversight body for the National Police. He mentioned that this strengthening includes granting Kompolnas binding recommendation authority. “And its oversight will have binding recommendation power, which is something we must implement,” he said. Sigit stated that these steps are part of ongoing evaluation and improvement within the National Police. According to Jimly, in the future, Kompolnas membership is also proposed to be more independent and no longer based on ex officio positions from specific government institutions. Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Services Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the President will continue to maintain the mechanism for appointing the Police Chief through DPR approval as per current regulations. “The President has chosen to follow what is currently in place,” said Yusril. “That is, he will propose the candidate for Police Chief to the DPR for approval, and then appoint the proposed candidate as Police Chief,” he continued.
