Police Chief: Polri successfully reaches three isolated locations affected by earthquake
Kupang (ANTARA) - East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Chief (Kapolda NTT) Inspector General Rudi Darmoko stated that Polri personnel have successfully opened access to three areas on Flores Island that were previously isolated due to the impact of the earthquake and landslides.
“Three areas that had been isolated have now had their access opened, because previously there were landslides,” said the Police Chief in Kupang on Monday, responding to questions regarding efforts by Polri and related parties to open isolated routes in the earthquake-affected areas of Flores Island.
At the location, personnel found communities in urgent need of assistance. In addition to distributing food, drinking water, and medicine, personnel also evacuated a pregnant woman who was experiencing bleeding due to premature labour.
“Alhamdulillah, she was able to be evacuated and taken to hospital. Alhamdulillah, she could be saved,” said the Police Chief.
The second location was the Reo area in Manggarai Regency, which had also previously experienced isolation. The Manggarai Police Chief, together with personnel, successfully opened access to the location, distributed aid, and established emergency response posts and tents for affected communities.
The third location was Dimpong Village in North Rahong District, Manggarai Regency. Information regarding the condition of isolated residents was received through social media. The East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police then responded quickly by deploying Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel to the location.
“Alhamdulillah, they were able to evacuate the isolated communities there who had not yet received aid. Alhamdulillah, they have now been evacuated by Brimob,” said the Police Chief.
According to the Police Chief, the success in reaching these three areas demonstrates the importance of personnel responding quickly to public reports.
To date, he said, Polri is still continuing to distribute aid to a number of communities that have not yet received assistance.
The Police Chief expressed hope that the public would report any other earthquake victims who have not yet received aid so that they can be recorded and receive assistance promptly.
