Police Chief Pledges Force's Support for National Food and Energy Self-Sufficiency
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has stated the force’s commitment to supporting the acceleration of food and energy self-sufficiency as part of efforts to maintain national stability amid increasingly uncertain global conditions. The commitment was conveyed by Listyo during his report at the 80th Bhayangkara Day Commemoration Ceremony in 2026 in Bogor Regency, Wednesday (1/7).
According to the Police Chief, climate change, technological disruption, trade wars, and escalating geopolitical conflicts in various regions have had a major impact on the world economy, including Indonesia. Therefore, the National Police fully supports President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to accelerate the realisation of food and energy independence.
“The President has given instructions to accelerate the achievement of food and energy self-sufficiency. The National Police is committed to supporting all government programmes and policies to maintain national stability and the sustainability of national development,” Listyo said.
In the food sector, the National Police is running various programmes ranging from the utilisation of productive land, development of nutritious food gardens, supervision of government aid distribution and harvests, to cooperating with Himbara banks to facilitate access to People’s Business Credit (KUR) for farmers. Together with relevant ministries, stakeholders, and 30,548 farmer groups, the National Police is also promoting sustainable corn planting on potential land covering 1.43 million hectares.
Listyo noted that from 2025 to the second quarter of 2026, the programme had resulted in a bumper harvest with total production reaching 5.7 million tonnes of corn. The National Police also assisted 30 farmer groups in Sembalun District, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, in developing garlic on 948 hectares of land with a harvest yield of 18,960 tonnes. Similar programmes have been expanded to Karanganyar, Temanggung, West Lampung, and Temanggung regencies with a total planting area of 127.5 hectares.
In addition to expanding planting areas, the National Police developed several agricultural innovations, including the use of modern farming methods, superior seeds, precision organic fertiliser made from water hyacinth, rotary dryer vehicles, utilisation of corn cob waste into charcoal briquettes, coal-based precision fertiliser to improve soil quality, and the construction of 29 National Police Food Security Warehouses. “We believe that with the spirit of collaboration from all levels of Indonesian society, we can maintain independence and safeguard sustainable national food availability,” Listyo stated.
In the energy sector, the National Police contributes through energy-saving measures in the work environment, the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) at 50 Police CNG filling stations, and law enforcement against criminal acts in the oil and gas sector. Throughout 2026, the National Police uncovered 464 cases in the energy sector, naming 594 suspects. From these operations, officers seized approximately 669,000 litres of diesel, 80,000 litres of Pertalite, and 30,000 LPG cylinders of various sizes, with estimated state losses saved reaching more than IDR 756 billion.
One highlighted case was the uncovering of the misuse of subsidised biodiesel transportation involving 120,000 litres. In that case, the National Police seized one tanker ship, two SPOB vessels, and seven transporter trucks as evidence. Through the Food Task Force, the National Police also strives to maintain the supply and price stability of staple goods by breaking distribution chains that harm farmers, including middlemen practices, and taking action against violations related to strategic commodities such as rice, cooking oil, LPG, and subsidised fuel.
As part of this oversight, the National Police has clarified the status of 173 palm oil companies indicated to be purchasing fresh fruit bunches at unreasonable prices. According to Listyo, these various measures are expected to strengthen the foundation of the national economy so that Indonesia remains resilient in facing increasingly complex global dynamics.
