Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has assured that the peak of the Lebaran 2026 return traffic has been passed. Nevertheless, General Sigit emphasised that all personnel will remain on alert in the field to escort the remaining travellers until the Routine Activities Enhancement Period (KRYD) concludes on 29 March.

This was stated by the Police Chief after directly inspecting the situation at Bakauheni Port in Lampung on Saturday (28/3/2026). During the inspection, the Police Chief was accompanied by Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi and National Traffic Corps Chief of Police Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho.

Based on Jasa Marga data, from 11 to 27 March 2026, the number of vehicles exiting Jakarta through the four main toll gates (Cikampek Main, Kalihurip Main, Cikupa, and Ciawi) totalled 2,946,891 vehicles. This represents a 20.49% increase compared to the normal daily traffic volume of 2,445,732 vehicles, and a 1.82% rise compared to Lebaran 2025’s 2,894,164 vehicles.

Meanwhile, the number of vehicles entering Jakarta through the four main toll gates totalled 2,561,629 vehicles. This is a 7.70% increase over the normal daily traffic volume of 2,378,425 vehicles, but a -1.88% decrease compared to Lebaran 2025’s 2,610,698 vehicles.

“Thus, there remains 385,262 vehicles or 13.7 percent. This means that overall, we see that the peak return traffic has been passed, and only 13.07 percent remains to be handled. Hopefully, we can continue to maintain and manage this so that all citizens undertaking the homecoming and return can enjoy their journey and arrive home safely,” explained the Police Chief.

Although Operation Ketupat 2026 officially ended on Thursday (26/3), the Indonesian National Police is continuing security measures through the KRYD period until Sunday, 29 March 2026. This step is taken to ensure that the second wave of homecomers is well served.

In addition to traffic flow smoothness, the Police Chief also highlighted the decline in traffic accident figures. General Sigit revealed that the fatality rate or number of deaths this year has dropped drastically compared to the previous year.

Based on analysis and evaluation results, Operation Ketupat 2026 recorded 3,039 traffic accidents. This is a decrease of 257 cases or 7.8% from 3,296 cases in Operation Ketupat 2025. Additionally, the number of fatalities was 265 people, a decrease of 112 people or -29.71% compared to the previous year’s 377 people.

General Sigit expressed thanks to all field officers who worked hard to secure the 2026 homecoming and return traffic. He also appreciated the synergy and collaboration of all stakeholders in realising a safe and comfortable homecoming in line with the 2026 homecoming tagline ‘Safe Homecoming, Happy Family’.

General Sigit advised homecomers currently in the return traffic to prepare themselves well. Utilise all service and security posts provided. Rest if tired or drowsy to arrive home safely.

“Of course, I also thank the public and all members who this year have managed to reduce the accident figures, especially regarding fatalities,” said General Sigit.
