Police Chief: Peak of 2026 Return Traffic Has Been Passed
Indonesian Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the peak of the return flow for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE has been passed. Based on the latest monitoring, the majority of returnees have been recorded as returning to the Jakarta area and its surroundings. “Overall, we see that the peak return flow has been passed, and only 13.07% remains that we must face,” said Sigit on Saturday (28/3). Referring to data from PT Jasa Marga (Persero), the total number of vehicles exiting Jakarta during the mudik period was recorded at 2,946,891 vehicles. As of Saturday morning, the number of vehicles that have returned towards Jakarta reached 2,561,629 vehicles. “Thus, there are still 385,262 vehicles or about 13.07% that have not returned,” explained the Police Chief. Although the peak phase has passed, General Sigit emphasised that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) ranks along with relevant stakeholders will not loosen security. Officers will remain on alert on strategic routes to ensure the safety and comfort of the remaining returnees on their journey. “Hopefully, we can continue to maintain and manage all this, so that all people carrying out mudik and return can enjoy their journey and arrive home safely,” he concluded. Up to H+6 of Lebaran, a total of 2,561,629 returnees have been recorded entering the Jakarta area. Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the mudik accident rate in 2026 fell by 7.8% even though the number of returnees surged by 20%. The Police Chief stated this to anticipate potential accidents at tourist spots along with the surge in tourists during the national holiday period.
