Police Chief Orders Brimob to Stay Alert Against Impacts of Geopolitical Turmoil
Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has ordered all Brimob personnel to stay alert in anticipation of dynamics that could arise from global geopolitical turmoil.
This was conveyed by the Police Chief during the opening of the technical working meeting (rakernis) of the Brimob Police Corps, attended by 7,000 members at the Brimob Police Headquarters Field, Depok, West Java, on Tuesday (21/4).
“We all must always be ready, we all must always be vigilant. We all must prepare ourselves to continue training to face all kinds of dynamics that may occur,” said Sigit in his address.
Sigit explained that global geopolitics is heating up due to the war between Iran and Israel and the United States (US). He stated that this conflict is creating a global situation and escalation that could spread.
On one hand, he said, there are many victims from civilians, buildings, and public facilities. The Police Chief noted that this war is also causing nearly all countries to experience disruptions in the energy sector.
“We see that several countries, including in this region, have declared a national energy emergency status. Some areas in neighbouring countries have already announced the use of energy as efficiently as possible,” he explained.
“Even some countries have begun regulating the implementation of WFH, including Indonesia, which is currently also implementing WFH or WFO once a week,” he added.
The Police Chief explained that Indonesia itself has endeavoured to address the energy crisis impacts, such as by opening new lifting refineries or old wells. However, he said that the potential for turmoil due to the energy crisis could still occur.
“However, on the other hand, we also see that for non-subsidised fuel (BBM) and non-subsidised LPG, there has been an increase, and this will have implications for rising prices,” he clarified.
“Of course, this will provoke reactions, will create the potential for increased escalation, particularly related to domestic security issues,” he continued.
Therefore, he ordered all Brimob members to prepare themselves to face threats that could potentially disrupt public security and order (Kamtibmas).
“Please study thoroughly the existing situation and escalation, study the conditions and the field terrain. Prepare the equipment you have so that when you deploy, the available equipment is ready,” he concluded.
