Police Chief Inspector Rudi Reveals Taufik Hidayat's Temperamental Nature: 'If He Doesn't Get What He Wants, He Turns Violent'

The West Java Regional Police have revealed that Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the abuse and false imprisonment of a woman with the initials YTR, has a highly temperamental character based on the results of examinations and in-depth investigations. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated that investigators had taken statements from the suspect’s family to explore his character and mental state. “The testimony from his family indicates the suspect’s character is indeed temperamental. If he does not get something that meets his expectations, he tends to resort to violence,” he said. Additionally, preliminary examination results show the suspect had a habit of consuming alcoholic beverages, harboured intense jealousy towards the victim, and admitted to experiencing pressure in his job as a debt collector. According to Rudi, investigators have also involved psychiatric experts to examine the suspect’s psychological condition as part of the investigation process. He explained that the suspect allegedly repeatedly committed violence against the victim using his bare hands, blunt objects, and sharp objects, resulting in the victim sustaining serious injuries to several parts of her body. “Besides punching the victim’s face, the suspect also allegedly stubbed out cigarettes on the victim’s body and confined her by locking her in a room before leaving her in a helpless state,” Rudi said. To date, West Java Police investigators are still completing the evidence and examining witnesses to finalise the case file before handing it over to the public prosecutor.
