Police Chief Highlights Emergence of New Legal Loopholes Due to Global Dynamics

JAKARTA - Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has highlighted the emergence of various new legal loopholes triggered by global developments and technological progress. “On the other hand, we are also facing global situations that undoubtedly impact the domestic situation and, of course, this also creates new legal loopholes that we must anticipate together,” Sigit said when met at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026). According to him, the dynamics of global conditions pose challenges that law enforcement agencies must address by strengthening professionalism, improving the quality of human resources (HR), and fostering synergy across institutions. He stated that the Criminal Investigation Coordination Meeting (Rakernis Reskrim) is part of Bareskrim Polri’s efforts to enhance the professionalism of officers through strengthening the quality and capabilities of HR. According to him, such steps are crucial to support the implementation of government programmes while delivering a sense of justice to the public. “Of course, synergy and collaboration among all ministries and institutions are very important, so that what is the President’s expectation for how we can realise a sense of justice for the public can be achieved,” he said. Sigit added that law enforcement officials now need to adapt to the implementation of the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), which bring a broader paradigm to the application of restorative justice. “The new KUHP and KUHAP are now starting to take effect, and of course, adjustments are needed,” he explained. He hopes that all law enforcement officials can understand this paradigm shift while strengthening legal literacy for the public.
