Police Chief Gives Special Attention to Acid Attack on Kontras Activist
Jakarta — The National Police Spokesman, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, stated that National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has given special attention to the investigation of the alleged acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras).
“On this occasion, we wish to convey that the Police Chief, as the leader of the National Police, has given special attention to the handling and investigation of this case,” said Isir when met at the National Police Public Relations Division Building in Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2026).
He explained that police have taken a series of preliminary steps, ranging from crime scene investigation to further inquiry.
Isir noted that the investigation being conducted by the Central Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit is also receiving support from the Jakarta Metro Police and the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim).
“The investigation at the Central Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit is being backed up by both the Jakarta Metro Police and Bareskrim, particularly by colleagues from the National Police Headquarters,” he said.
He assured that the inquiry and investigation process is being conducted professionally and based on scientific methods.
Meanwhile, Andrie Yunus continues to receive treatment at a hospital.
Isir also conveyed the National Police leadership’s condolences regarding the incident.
“We pray that the victim, AY, can receive proper care, recover, and be able to provide testimony,” he said.
The National Police also appealed to the public who witnessed the events to provide information to investigators. Police assured that the identity of information providers will be protected.
Kontras Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the acid attack on Andrie caused serious wounds to several parts of his body. According to Dimas, the victim suffered injuries to both hands, face, chest, and the area around his eyes.
The incident occurred shortly after Andrie finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) with the theme “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia”.
Immediately following the attack, Andrie was rushed to hospital for medical treatment. Based on initial examination results, he sustained burns covering approximately 24 percent of his body.
