National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo directly monitored the national security situation, public order, and Eid al-Fitr 2026 homecoming traffic via video conference from the Integrated Security Post at Merdeka Field, Medan, North Sumatra, on Friday, 20 March 2026.

General Listyo Sigit was accompanied by TNI Commander General Agus Subianto, several civilian, police, and TNI officials, as well as North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya and Medan Mayor Rico Waas.

The joint monitoring results from various ministries and agencies, Listyo stated, indicate that the peak of the Eid al-Fitr 2026 homecoming traffic has passed. “From direct virtual monitoring across all regions, the peak homecoming occurred on 18 March 2026 with a total of 270,315 vehicles, an increase of 4.62 percent compared to 258,383 vehicles in 2025,” said Listyo Sigit.

The Police Chief added that various traffic engineering measures, such as odd-even vehicle number plate systems, contraflow, and one-way arrangements, were applied to alleviate congestion, including anticipating the surge in public mobility following the night of takbiran and Idul Fitri prayers. Contraflow is a traffic arrangement that temporarily borrows part of the lane from the opposite direction. Meanwhile, one-way is a traffic arrangement where all lanes are designated for one direction only.

According to Listyo, the national one-way system was officially halted at 2:22 PM earlier due to traffic conditions gradually returning to normal. Regarding the number of personnel for securing the series of 1447 Hijriah Idul Fitri events, Police Chief Listyo mentioned that more than 72,000 personnel were deployed to secure activities from the night of takbiran to Idul Fitri prayers on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
