The Head of Traffic Police (Kakorlantas) of the Indonesian National Police, Lieutenant General Agus Suryonugroho, has ensured the readiness of his personnel to collaborate with stakeholders in managing the Lebaran exodus and return migration for the Islamic year 1447 H through Operation Ketupat 2026. This year’s security operations will rely on cutting-edge technology to guarantee ‘Safe Mudik, Happy Families’.

The statement was made by Lieutenant General Agus following the Operation Ketupat 2026 Force Deployment Ceremony held at the Monumental Crossroads field in Central Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026). The ceremony was led by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto.

Lieutenant General Agus explained that technology integration forms the backbone of Operation Ketupat security this year. Personnel in the field will not only be equipped with operational vehicles but also digital devices to monitor situations in real-time.

“For Operation Ketupat, we are currently using technology infrastructure. We will monitor using ETLE, drones, and body cameras that will be attached to personnel to serve the public, whether on toll roads, arterial roads, or at ports,” said Lieutenant General Agus.

The use of this technology aims to ensure that every development in the field can be responded to quickly and accurately, particularly in anticipating vehicle congestion at critical points along the mudik routes.

Regarding traffic management schemes such as one-way traffic and contraflow, the Traffic Commander emphasised that field execution is based on measured vehicle count parameters (traffic counting) using digital technology, rather than mere predictions.

“For example, at KM 47, there is a radar that can count vehicles per hour. If it reaches 5,500 vehicles, we report to the National Police Chief to execute one-lane contraflow. If it rises to 6,400, we open two lanes. If there is still a long queue, we deploy a drone to monitor the flow before deciding on one-way traffic from KM 70 to KM 236 towards Pejagan,” he explained in detail.

Following the National Police Chief’s instructions, Lieutenant General Agus divided security focus into five main clusters covering all Indonesian regions. These include toll roads, arterial roads, transport crossings and nodes such as ports, airports, and stations, places of worship, and tourist destinations.

“The essence of Operation Ketupat is to ensure the state is present. Not only securing the mudik and return exodus, but ensuring the series of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and even Nyepi celebrations in Bali are all secure,” added Lieutenant General Agus.

Operation Ketupat 2026 is scheduled to run for 13 days, from 16 March to 28 March 2026. However, Lieutenant General Agus noted that personnel have already begun shifting to security posts since Thursday evening.
