Police Chief: Corn Planting in Q1 2026 on 196,000 hectares of land
The Indonesian National Police (Polri) Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, outlined the force’s ambitious target to support national food self-sufficiency in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives. Polri has committed to completing corn planting on hundreds of thousands of hectares at the start of this year. General Sigit conveyed this during a direct, nationwide corn-planting operation in Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra, on Saturday, 7 March 2026. He explained that the programme represents a concrete step by Polri in carrying out the President’s mandate for food independence.
“The planting of corn in Q1 2026 nationwide will take place from January to March on an area of 196,175 hectares,” General Sigit said, referring to the current period target.
General Sigit remains optimistic that the land area prepared will have a significant impact on national food stocks. The projected production could meet market needs with an estimated harvest between 784,859 tonnes and 1.96 million tonnes.
By the end of the first week of March 2026, Sigit reported that field progress continued to show a positive trend. Police rank-and-file across Indonesia have been conducting mass planting operations.
“The progress of corn planting for January 1 to March 4, 2026 stood at 146,904.10 hectares,” he said, detailing current realised progress.
This strategic step is part of the government’s response to the global crisis and commodity price increases. Sigit stressed that food independence is key to Indonesia’s resilience.
“The need is growing because of programmes such as MBG (Makanan Bergizi Gratis), a food programme that requires adequate animal feed,” he added.
“Also, I would like to thank all levels of the organisation and encourage continued enthusiasm to truly implement what the President has directed for the people. Thank you.”
During this agenda, the Police Chief was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono, the Director General of Bulog Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani (Retired), and the Governor of South Sumatra Herman Deru. In addition to agricultural matters, Sigit inaugurated 57 Presisi Red-White Bridges to facilitate the logistics path for farmers’ produce.
